MARVIN R. NIELSEN

The funeral service for Marvin Nielsen was held on Monday, Dec. 30, 2024 at the United Methodist Church in Renwick. Burial followed the service at Swiss Cemetery in Renwick.
Marvin Ray ‘Marv’ Nielsen was born March 8, 1954 in Fort Dodge; the son of Earl and Shirley (Shelgren) Nielsen. He grew up in Gilmore City and graduated from Gilmore City-Bradgate High school in 1973.
Following high school, he began a career as a mechanic assistant at Eggrich Chevrolet in Humboldt before moving on to Dekalb Seed and eventually spending 35 years with Pioneer/Corteva in Renwick, from which he retired in 2020. In addition to his work, beginning in high school, Marv dedicated a significant amount of time to his Sunday paper route, very seldom missing his weekly route, diligently serving the community until his route ended in 2020.
On May 8, 1982, he was united in marriage to Ramona ‘Monie’ Mills. Together, they made their home in Renwick where they raised their children, Melissa and Ryan.
His love for farming was evident, especially in his hobby farming and the way he helped Shelgren Farms with Eddie and Rod Shelgren, as well as Wigans Ag with farm work. A passionate collector, Marv had an extensive array of toy tractors that transformed his basement into what many affectionately referred to as a tractor store. Marv, along with Ryan and Carter, loved to travel the state exploring toy tractor stores and shows. In later years he discovered the ease of looking and ordering online. Marv cherished time spent with his family, particularly his grandkids, often taking on the role of the devoted ‘Taxi’ driver. He enjoyed deer hunting and shared many memorable moments with loved ones. Marv was a member of the United Methodist Church in Renwick, sometimes filling in as the maintenance man, and served on the Board of Trustees. He also took pride in mowing all three cemeteries in the Renwick area for many years, as well as Corteva (Pioneer)grounds. In the spring, he found time to till gardens in the area.
Marv died Monday, Dec. 23, 2024 at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. He was 70.
He is survived by his wife, Monie of Renwick; children, Melissa Nielsen of Humboldt, Ryan (Christine) Nielsen of Renwick; grandchildren, Carter, Brielle, Brynlie, Shaylee; siblings, Vicky (Steve) Deering of Northfield, MN, Rick (Jane) Nielsen of Gilmore City, Shelly (Steve) Umstead of Humboldt, Curt (Beth) Nielsen of Gilmore City; sisters-in-law, Linda Medlang of Kensett, Susan Nielsen of Gilmore City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
