MARJORIE A. WHIPPLE
Marjorie A. Whipple, 99, of Humboldt, passed away on Friday, Jan. 3, 2025 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Marjorie was born April 20, 1925 in Randall, Iowa the daughter of Michael and Annie (Odson) Michaelson. The family lived in Randall for a short time and then in 1931 moved to Kanawha. In 1933, she moved to Eagle Grove where she was raised and educated. Marge attended Iowa Central Community College in Eagle Grove and in December of 1956 took a teaching position at Leland-Holland School. She moved on to teach first grade in Thor in 1957. She was united in marriage to Warren H. Whipple on May 29, 1963 in Eagle Grove and brought to the marriage her two children, Bob and Becky. The couple lived on a farm in Rutland Township and she taught in Ottosen. Marjorie then attended Drake University where she received a Master’s in Education and went on to teach special education for the Humboldt Community School District in “Old Stoney”. In 1988 Marjorie and Warren moved to Humboldt. She was very active at Faith United Methodist Church, serving in church circles and prayer groups. She had been a member of the Republican Women and looked forward to her times with the group of ladies with their Friday lunches and dinners.
Marjorie is survived by her daughter Becky Gerritson of Sioux City, daughter-in-law Jill Detmering of Osage, her grandchildren; Brandon (Cassie) Risetter, Judith (Steve) Black and Rob Detmering III, her great-grandchildren; Payton and Cameron Risetter and Matthew and Ryan Detmering. She has one great-great-grandchild on the way and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Warren, son Robert Detmering, infant daughter Judith, three sisters; Alma Kelling, Mildred Nervig and Fern Schultz and two brothers Herman and Teddy Michaelson.
Funeral Services were held on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025 at Faith United Methodist Church. Burial was in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service is in charge of the arrangements.
