BRUCE L. GUNDERSON

Bruce L. Gunderson, 86, of Humboldt, passed away on Monday morning, March 3, 2025 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.
Bruce was born Nov. 14, 1938 in Emmet County. He was raised on a farm near Terril, Iowa and graduated from Terril High School. He attended Buena Vista College and obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree. While at Buena Vista he met Linda M. Steig. The couple were married on Sept. 6, 1959 in Storm Lake. The couple made their home in Storm Lake and later for a short time in Ames while Bruce attended classes at Iowa State University. They then moved to Humboldt and Bruce taught 7th and 9th grade science and biology at the Humboldt Junior High School. For many years, Bruce was the head coach for the Humboldt High School boys golf and the 8th grade football teams. Bruce continued to further his education during the summer months attending the University of South Dakota and obtaining a Masters in Science Degree. He would later attend Berkley in California for a Science 4 Science Teachers course. Bruce retired from teaching after serving the Humboldt Community School District for 39 years.
He was a member of the 7 o’clock Kiwanis Club, The Humboldt Country Club, held a private pilot’s license and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir for 53 years. He held numerous positions within the church.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 65 years, Linda of Humboldt, his children; Molly Peaton of Humboldt, Todd (Pam) Gunderson of Ellicott City, MD and Beth (James) Martin of Germfask, MI, his grandchildren; Stephanie (Anthony) Ayala, Dan, and Ryan (Ping) Gunderson, his great-grandchildren; Alexander Peaton, Madison (Donald) Good and Kennedy Ayala and great-great-grandson, Deklen Good. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Christopher Peaton, infant brother Darrel, brother and sister-in-law, Duane (Yvonne) Gunderson and sister and brother-in-law, Doris (Elwin) Clark.
Funeral Services were held on Friday, March 7 at Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Burial was in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service in Humboldt is in charge of the arrangements.
