HUMBOLDT – Jason Thurm, a veteran educator and coach in the Humboldt School District, announced on March 12 he is stepping down as head coach of the Humboldt boys' basketball team.

Thurm compiled an overall won-loss record of 97-42, 61-22 in the North Central Conference. His teams consistently finished among the top three in the final conference standings each year, including an NCC title in the 2021-22 season. That same team qualified for the Class 3A state tournament in Des Moines, where they lost a 69-65 quarterfinal round overtime game to Davenport Assumption.

Thurm, a middle school social studies teacher, will continue to serve head baseball coach, a position he has held the last 25 years.
