Humboldt’s veteran head boys’ track coach Greg Wickett says his squad is ahead of schedule after an impressive showing at their own Nielsen Family Invitational held inside the Humboldt Recreation Center on March 20.
The Wildcats had several top five performances in the annual indoor meet where no team scoring was kept.
“They did a good job for this early in the year. We haven’t practiced hardly at all because of the snow, but we’ve used these first few indoor meets as training sessions,” Wickett said.
“We’re not where we need to be, but we are seeing some good things here early on. The improvement will come later,” Wickett said.
Humboldt junior Valley Davis was first in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.14 seconds and the Wildcats’ shuttle hurdle relay and distance medley relay both took first.
The distance medley of Cash McIntire, Brayden Dahl, Jackson Flaherty and Jackson Dodd finished in 3:55.24. The shuttle of Coen Matson, Griffin Groat, Valley Davis and Keegan Groat ran first in 38.11 seconds.
Humboldt was also second in the 4x400 relay in 3:39.41. Jackson Dodd, Chase Flaherty, Elliot Carlson and Mason Van Pelt comprised the relay for the Wildcats. Algona nipped Humboldt with a time of 3:39.02.
