Kara Waldorf, who guided the Humboldt girls’ volleyball program during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, has taken over the reins again.

Waldorf will replace Ashlyn McKenna, who led Humboldt during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. McKenna and her husband are moving to central Iowa to take on new career opportunities.

Waldorf had a combined won-loss record of 48-20, 13-1 in North Central Conference play. Humboldt went 7-0 and won the league title in 2021. They were 6-1 and runner-up in 2022. The Humboldt school board was expected to approve her hiring at their March 24 meeting.

“First off, I’m super happy for Ashlyn as she moves on to the next steps of her life and career. It will be awesome for her. I know she will do great with the opportunities that will come her way,” Waldorf said

“With the volleyball position being open, I’m really excited to be able to have another chance take over the program again. Being off the past two years has allowed me the chance to step back and just be a spectator. Being away from it has given me some perspective about everything and I’m just really excited to get to be able to get back in the gym with the girls. I’ve missed them a lot,” Waldorf said.
