Experience will boost Humboldt girls’ soccer

Led by the return of all-conference players Elsie Hubbell and Gracie Lyon, the Humboldt girls’ soccer team looks to challenge again in this North Central Conference this season.
The Wildcats and head coach Rodd Mooney return 11 letterwinners from last year’s squad that went 10-7 overall, 8-4 and third in the NCC.
Hubbell, a senior, was a first-team all-conference midfielder. Lyon, now a junior, was also a first-team pick. Hubbell scored eight goals and made seven assists last spring.
“We have 11 returning letterwinners this year. We graduated a really strong senior class that played a while for us. Logged a lot of minutes on the field for us. That being said, the juniors and sophomores mixed in well with them,” Mooney said. “Even though we did graduate a great group, I think we have enough pieces returning from last year’s team where we won’t see a big letdown.”
“These kids are ready to step forward and fill leadership roles and keep the ball moving in a positive direction. We came off a winning season last year and those can be hard to come by. These kids are ready to take the next step,” Mooney said.
