ERLAND L. NELSON

Erland L. Nelson, 95, of Humboldt passed away on Thursday morning, April 3, 2025 in the Long-Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.
Erland was born Jan. 29, 1930 in Fort Dodge, the son of Phillip and Florence (Swanson) Nelson. He was raised and educated in the Callender area, graduating from Callender High School. He enlisted in the United States Army. He served in Germany during the Korean War. Erland worked for Sande Construction for a number of years before becoming self-employed as a carpenter. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Tull on Sept. 16, 1983. The couple made their home in Humboldt. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and cruises. He was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, the American Legion, Sathers-Odgaard VFW, was head of the color guard for a number of years and assisted with the veteran’s loan closet.
Erland is survived by his wife Phyllis of Britt, his step-children; Victoria (Jerry) Fowler of Arizona, Michael (Faye) Tull of Algona, Gary (Eilene) Tull of South Carolina, Sue (Dennis) Abbott of Clear Lake and Roger (Julie) Tull of Phoenix, AZ, eight step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren, three step-great-great grandchildren, sister-in-law Barb Nelson of Waverly and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Cliff, Frank and Virgil Nelson and his sisters; Dorothy Nelson, Selma Ehrhardt and Phyllis Vik.
Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, April 8 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Burial with military rites by the Sathers-Odgaard VFW and American Legion was in Indian Mound Cemetery.
