Cade Birdsell shoots 79 on 1st day at state golf!

Humboldt High sophomore Cade Birdsell placed 27th overall after the second day of the Class 3A state golf tournament at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls on May 28.
Birdsell, who shot rounds of 38 and 41 to finish with a 79, seven strokes over par after day one, carded 37-38--75 on the second day. He ended with an overall score of 154. Parker Rodgers of Nevada was the individual champion 67-70--137.
Birdsell advances to state golf!
Birdsell advanced into the state tournament after placing runner-up in a district meet at Landsmeer Golf Course in Orange City on Monday, May 19.
Birdsell shot a six-over-par 77 to lead the Wildcats, who finished fourth with 337 strokes and fell short of their goal of advancing to state as a team.
MOC-Floyd Valley won the team crown with 308 strokes. Spencer was second with 326 as the top two teams advance to state. Webster City totaled 330. Okoboji finished behind Humboldt with 343 and Spirit Lake had 356.
Birdsell shot a 41 on the front nine then came back with a 36. Carson Korver (73) and Jake Wrather (77), both of MOC-FV, finished 1-2 individually. Cael Nixon of Webster City shot 78 and Jaizik Miller of Spirit Lake had 79.
For Humboldt, Dawson Sleiter shot 42-44—86. Carson Oleson shot 41-46—87 and Parker Sleiter shot 44-43—87. Mack Harklau finished with 47-41—88 and Cyler Cirks shot 47-44—91.
