During their regular meeting on June 9, the Humboldt Community School District Board of Director’s discussed sharing agreements, handbook changes, and bill payments.
First on the docket for the evening was the superintendent's report from Superintendent Murray, later in the evening the board gave their superintendent evaluations during a closed session.
During his report, Superintendent Murray updated the board on staffing, the summer food program and facilities updates.
According to Superintendent Murray, the resignation of Josh Telschaw as technology assistant created an opening for the role, which will be filled by Britini O’Leary. O’Leary will take on the title as K-12 Technology Integrationist for the upcoming school year.
Regarding the Summer Food Program, Superintendent Mur-ray reported that there was a good turnout for the first week of service.
According to Taft Elementary Principal Ryan Fedders, out of the 259 students who signed up for the program, 250 showed up to pick up their meals.
Superintendent Murray said, “So, Ryan and I were out (there) helping today with the food program a little bit, and we’ve got a good response of 250 students that are taking advantage of it. Families can get seven days’ worth of food if they come on Monday, they get Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and they get Thursday through Sunday when they come on Thursday. And that’s breakfast and lunch all week long. And you don’t have to qualify income-wise to receive that. It’s any family that lives in our district that has students under the age of 18.”
Next, Superintendent Mur-ray updated the board on the facilities that have received upgrades. He shared that the new scoreboard is now up at the Mason Maach Field, with a representative from the company on the way to meet with the school about advertising opportunities with the new scoreboard.
Superintendent Murray also shared at the meeting that the R. Wesley Carlson Auditorium renovation project is now underway with a tentative completion date of October 1.
The superintendent then took the opportunity to honor Student School Board Member Shelby Wood, who was not present at the previous meeting, for her work with the board.
He said, “She did volunteer, she didn’t know what she was volunteering for with serving on the school board as a student and nice to learn more about the high school perspective and get to know her a little bit. Thank you, Shelby, for serving on the school board. We really appreciate it. I think it’s going to help you in your career as you move forward.”
Wood thanked the school board and the administrative team in response for the opportunity and shared that she has officially enrolled in her first semester at the University of Iowa.
