ROBERT M. SCHAUMBURG

Robert “Bob” Schaumburg, age 73, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2025, at UnityPoint Health-Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, with his family by his side.
Robert Merton Schaumburg was born Oct. 27, 1951, in Fort Dodge, to Joseph Simon William and Myrtle Matilda (Haas) Schaumburg. He grew up in Eagle Grove, with his three brothers, William, Merlin and Martin, and three sisters, Joanne, Louann and Denise. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1970.
Bob worked in the Fareway meat market after graduation and took classes at Iowa Central Community College in Food Marketing Management. He later opened “Bob and Eddie’s Quality Meats” in Humboldt. He co-owned and operated it for several years before selling it to pursue a career in sales. Bob had the gift of gab and was kind and generous to everyone he met. He made many friends over the years selling plumbing and HVAC supplies for Brigg’s Incorporated until he retired in 2017.
Bob met the love of his life, Janette Kay Flynn, and they were united in marriage on July 22, 1972, in Emmetsburg. Bob and Janette created a loving home in Dakota City, where they raised four children. They enjoyed spending time together working in their yard or garden and tackling remodeling projects on the house. They loved going on walks and spending summer evenings relaxing on the deck. Bob loved tinkering around in his garage and shed and watching football, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and Los Angeles Rams. Family was very important to Bob, and he enjoyed having his children and their families around. One thing he took great pride in was making chocolate malts for his grandkids.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Janette, children; Lisa (Chad) Theesfeld, Joseph Schaumburg, Kimberly (Russell) Penning, Lindsey (Nik) Lovaas, grandchildren; Carter and Lily Theesfeld, Larissa Schaumburg (Ryan Maschmann), Fenix, Jaxon, and Metix Penning, Elijah, Emmalyn, Liam, and Flynn Lovaas and great-grandaughter Celeste Maschmann. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Myrtle (Haas) Schaumburg, in-laws Eugene and Arlene (Enger) Flynn, sister Joanne Schaumburg, brother Merlin Schaumburg, niece Michelle McPeak, and nephew Brett Flynn.
Robert’s wish was to be cremated, and a private celebration of life will be held with his family at a later date.
