Wildcats rally past Algona, 28-23

Humboldt rallied from a 17-7 halftime deficit to upend the Algona Bulldogs, 28-23 in a Class 3A District 1 football game at Algona on Friday, Oct. 3.
The victory improved the Wildcats' record to 3-3 overall, 1-1 in district play and also kept Humboldt's playoff hopes alive with three games remaining in district play. Algona fell to 3-3 and 0-2.
Quarterback Jackson Flaherty scored on an 8-yard run in the second quarter and completed two touchdown passes to Chase Flaherty in the second half. Cash McIntire scored on a 17-yard run with 2:06 left in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Algona scored with 43 seconds left in the game on a 5-yard pass from Nathan Manske to Micah Kitzinger. Humboldt's defense stopped the conversion run attempt for two. Humboldt then recovered Algona's onside kick and ran out the remaining 41 seconds.
Humboldt travels to Maurice Orange City-Floyd Valley on Oct. 10 for district play.
