Conservation board receives updates on trails

The annual seasonal camping lottery was held before the start of the Conservation meeting this year.

“It went really well and it didn’t interfere with the board meeting. I think this was a really good idea,” Humboldt County Conservation Director Todd Lee said.

City Administrator Cole Bockelmann could not make the meeting to discuss the Eagle Ridge Project due to another commitment. Instead, Clayton Vorland with the Parks and Sanitation Department informed the Conservation Board of the progress to date and what remains to be completed.

“The next step right now is that we’re waiting on Bainbridge to come back and do the concrete up at the top, which we call Eagle Ridge top,” Vorland said.

He also explained that there is some dirt work and seeding that remains to be done.

“We’re at the 80% mark of being done at least, maybe a bit more,” Vorland explained.

He did inform the board that while it looks to be finished, it isn’t and they are encouraging people not to use it until it is completed.

Following Vorland’s presentation, Jake Zweibohmer 2trees design, updated the board on a project he has been working on for the trails in Humboldt County.

Zweibohmer is a local graphic designer and is an instructor at Iowa Central Community College. He is also studying for his Masters through the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.

In order to gain his masters, Zweibohmer was tasked with making a theoretical design of of some sort. He decided to use the experience to create wayfinding signage for the trails in Humboldt.

“This project aims to enhance the user experience on the Three Rivers Trail in Humboldt through a cohesive, user-friendly and well-designed wayfinding signage system.
