BETTY J. VORRIE

Betty Vorrie, 98, of Fort Dodge, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on Jan. 12, 2026. Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 19, at Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor. Burial was in Blossom Hill Cemetery, Badger.
Betty Jane Vorrie was born on Feb. 22, 1927, in Badger, the daughter of Perry and Rose (Christenson) Bradley. She was baptized and confirmed at the Badger Lutheran Church in Badger. She attended the local school and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1945. She worked with her father in the family café and grocery store in Badger.
On Sept. 5, 1948, Betty was united in marriage with Carroll Lorelle Vorrie at the Badger Lutheran Church. They lived on a farm in the Thor area for 40 years, retired in the fall of 1988 and moved to Fort Dodge.
Betty was a member of Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor. She was an active member in many groups including ULCW, Sarah Circle and the sewing and quilting groups. Betty sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, served as a Council Trustee and on the Board of Education. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Red Hat Ladies and served as a 4-H Leader.
Betty and her husband Lorelle enjoyed traveling the United States on many bus trips. They also traveled to the Scandinavian Countries, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico and Canada. Betty enjoyed making quilts, afghans and doing many crafts. She loved to cook and bake – especially making Norwegian foods.
Betty was an amazing person who did small things with great love. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother – who was extremely proud of every member of her family. She leaves a legacy for all who remember the moments she shared through her heart of gold, peacefulness and faithfulness. Her spirit of love and grace will always be with us.
She is survived by her sons, Dennis Vorrie (Sallie) of Fort Dodge and Duane Vorrie (Deanna) of Humboldt; daughter, Diane Schmid (Roger) of Kingsley; 11 grandchildren: Derek Vorrie (Melissa), Nathaniel Vorrie (Caroline), Samuel Vorrie, Hannah Niewoehner (Jared), Christopher Vorrie (Kelsey), Bradley Vorrie (Lindy), Adam Vorrie (Madalyn), Jordan Vorrie (Jessica), Tyler Vorrie (Jillian), Brandon Schmid (Katie) and Ryan Schmid (Elizabeth); 17 great-grandchildren: Macy, Reagan and Maya Vorrie, Eve Niewoehner, Peyton, Elin and Declan Vorrie, Zoey and Lucille Vorrie, Iris Vorrie, Brynlee and Lydia Vorrie, Brynlee, Mackenzie and Miles Schmid, Solvie and Klara Schmid; sisters-in-law, Isabel Vorrie and Betty Ann Vorrie and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sutanna and Haakon Askelson, Opal and Sterling Axness, Pearl and Raymond Axness and Rosann and Leonard Hansch; brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Helen Bradley; brothers-in-law, Everett Vorrie, Norbert Vorrie and James Young; sister-in-law, Francis Young and great grandson, Jayce Vorrie.
