Broedy Hendricks becomes 3-time NCC champion!

Humboldt High junior Broedy Hendricks became the 10th Wildcat wrestler in school history to become a 3-time North Central Conference champion after he won the 190-pound class in the 59th annual NCC tournament held Saturday, Jan. 24 inside the Humboldt gym.

Hendricks, 39-1, won all three of his matches in dominant fashion in helping Humboldt finish fourth in the team scoring with 128 points.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows claimed the team title with 255 points. Algona was runner-up with 209.5. Hampton-Dumont-CAL was third at 148.5. Clear Lake was fifth with 124.5. Webster City (98), Iowa Falls-Alden (94), Charles City (41) and Fort Dodge St Edmond (19) round out the scoring.

Hendricks won his first two matches by technical fall in the first period. In the finals, he disposed of Clear Lake's Raif Baack with a first period fall in 1:48.

Humboldt got third-place finishes from Braden Downs at 157 and Karson Reinhardt at 138 pounds. Jaxson Kirchhoff was fourth at 150. Jonny Hayden was fourth at 132, as was Tate Halverson at 165 and Henry Kramer at 126. Caden Fredin was fifth at 175, along with Dylan Frideres at 120 and Mason Frideres at 106. Ayden Fiengo competed at 215 but didn't place. Carson Ireland was also at 113. Humboldt was open at 285 and 144.

Humboldt went 2-0 at the West Marshall quad on Jan. 29. The Wildcats defeated West Marshall 38-37 and downed Gilbert 50-19 to move to 16-6 overall.

Humboldt competes in the South Central Calhoun duals in Rockwell City on Saturday, Jan. 31.

The Wildcats Clarion on Tuesday, Feb. 3, for a Class 2A regional dual. The No. 20 ranked Wildcats will meet No. 19 ranked Denver in the first dual that evening with the winner facing No. 2 ranked Clarion-Goldfield-Dows for the right to advance to the state dual team tournament in Coralville on Feb. 7.
