Vinsand's record-tying 5 goals power HHS girls past HDC

Kaleigh Vinsand tied a school record with five goals to lead Humboldt past HDC on April 7.
Kaleigh Vinsand scored five goals, tying a school record, to lead the Humboldt girls' soccer team past Hampton-Dumont-CAL, 5-2 in a North Central Conference matchup at Hampton on Tuesday night, April 7. Laina Dettmann made two saves at the net to aid the Wildcat victory. Humboldt improved to 2-0 on the season. Humboldt won their season opener on Monday night (April 6) at Webster City, winning by a 3-1 final count. Vinsand is the third player in school history to score five goals. Ava McIntire did it in 2024 and Jayden Smith scored five in a contest in the 2018 season.
Kaleigh Vinsand, Gracie Lyon and Ava Girres each scored a goal in the Wildcat victory. Vinsand and Sadie Hubbell each had an assist on the night. Wildcat goalkeeper Laina Dettmann made four saves at the net.
In the boys' contest against the Lynx in Humboldt, the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie. Nico Christensen's penalty kick with 4:00 left knotted the score up at 1-1. The Lynx had taken a 1-0 lead 14:00 in the first half on a goal by Adrian Martinez.
Humboldt's girls will host Wright County on Monday, April 13. The Wildcats visit Iowa Falls on April 16. They will host Clear Lake on April 21. The Wildcats' regularly scheduled contest at Mason City on April 2 has been moved to May 14 due to inclement weather.
The Humboldt boys, now 1-0-1 on the season, host Hampton-Dumont-CAL on April 9. They travel to Belmond on April 13 to face Wright County. The Wildcats host Iowa Falls-Alden on April 16. Humboldt is at Clear Lake on April 20.
