Tedmar “Butch” Carl Brodale Jr., 77 of Bode, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2026, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 1 to 3 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode. Services have been entrusted to Lentz Funeral Home of Humboldt. Online condolences may be left at www.lentzfuneralhome.com.
Butch was born on Sept. 30, 1948, to Tedmar and Corrine (Lomen) Brodale in Fort Dodge. He was raised in rural Ottosen with his two sisters Mary and Margaret. Butch graduated from Twin Rivers High School with the class of 1966 and moved to Bode soon after graduation. He met Norma Sperry in Gilmore City and on Dec. 1, 1976, the couple was united in marriage. Butch and Norma made their home on an acreage outside of Bode.
Butch was a farmer most of his life and helped pick seed corn for Dekalb. After retiring from farming in 1999, he helped out a local farmer and worked part-time for Monsanto for a few years during the summer. Come fall, he enjoyed cruising around the countryside searching, watching and helping transport the “picking crew”. Butch enjoyed raising chickens and having the best “butchering parties” with family and friends, pulling pickups in pickup pulling events, bailing hay and visiting with the guys at the “Bad Boyz Bar.” He also had a passion for mowing lawns, field entrances, or anything with grass at that. He always told people, ‘It’s not how fast you mow, it’s how well you mow fast’—which explained why he was never in much of a hurry if you ever got behind him on the road.
Left to cherish Butch’s memory are his children: Brad (Abby) Brodale of Humboldt and Cori Brodale of Gilmore City; grandchildren: Jaci (Koby) Becker of Lawrence, KS, Tyler Carlson (19), Isabelle (19), Hunter (15) and Bennett (11) Brodale: great grandchildren: Wayne, Ryker and Paisley Becker and nephews: Preston and Adam Keres and families.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Tedmar and Corrine Brodale; sisters: Mary and Margaret; wife: Norma and brother-in-law: Jerry.
