Wildcat boys down Lions, Lynx in key golf matchup

Humboldt’s varsity boys’ golf team took a big step toward a North Central Conference title by turning back rivals Clear Lake and Webster City in a key league clash in Humboldt on April 21 at Humboldt Country Club.
The Wildcats, led by junior meet medalist Cade Birdsell’s two-under-par 34, totaled 147 strokes for top honors. Clear Lake had 154 total and Webster City 163.
Wildcat sophomore Dawson Sleiter was runner-up with a 36 and Carson Oleson was fifth overall with a 38. Cooper Theesfeld shot a 39 and was seventh. Ascher Gonder (41) and Andrew Nedved (44) round out Humboldt’s scoring.
Gavin Roske led Clear Lake with a 37. He was third. Coyce Bertran of Webster City was fourth overall with a 37 to lead the Lynx. Clear Lake had Kenny Fisher with a 38, Hudson Carney with a 39 and Luke Fuhrman with a 40. Syrus Willard of Webster City shot a 40.
Humboldt travels to Hampton on May 5. The conference tournament will be May 7 in Mason City.
