Wildcat girls, boys place 3rd in Storm Lake track Invitational

The Humboldt girls and boys' track teams both placed third in the Storm Lake Invitational on April 30.
Humboldt's girls secured four top performances. Wildcat senior Brynn Malo ran a season’s best 2:28.73 to win the 800-meters. Avery Fisher ran a season’s best 11:11.97 to take second in the 3,000-meters. The shuttle hurdle relay of Kate Sievers, Claire Dieleman, Alivia Goodell and Fiona Tinken ran a season’s best 1:14.88 to win the event. Humboldt also ran a season’s best 10:27.26 to finish second in the 4x800 relay. The 4x400 relay also had a season’s best time of 4:28.48.
The Wildcats had season’s best performances in several other events, both varsity and JV, as they near the final few weeks of the season.
“The girls have really been performing well the last fe3w meets. We continue to improve in the skill areas such as block starts, baton exchanges and race strategy,” Humboldt head coach Spencer Ross said.
Humboldt's boys won five events in the meet. Wildcat sophomore Dane Clark had a breakthrough night as he won the discus with a personal best throw of 148-1. Humboldt also won the 1,600-meter medley relay, the 4x200 relay and the shuttle hurdle relay events.
Humboldt's girls will compete in the North Central Conference meet at Webster City on May 7. The Wildcat boys will travel to Algona on May 7 for their NCC meet.
The state qualifying meet will one held on May 14 in Clear Lake. The Class 3A state meet will be May 21-23 in Des Moines.
