HHS girls edged by Mason City, eye post-season soccer

Class 1A Region 5 bracket
The Humboldt girls' soccer team lost a hard-fought 2-1 contest at Mason City on May 14.
Sadie Hubbell scored the lone goal off of an assist by Kaleigh Vinsand to lead Humboldt. Laina Dettmann made 12 saves at the net. The loss moved Humboldt to 9-2-3 overall.
Humboldt hosts Garner-Hayfield/Ventura on May 18. They travel to Clear Lake on May 19 and host Charles City on May 21 at 5:30 p.m., varsity only, to close out the regular season.
Humboldt will begin post-season tournament play on Thursday, May 28, when they host East Sac County in a Region 5 contest. The winner of the contest advances to Carroll Kuemper on June 2 for a regional semifinal. The rest of Class 1A Region 5 has Wright County and Greene County meeting on May 26 at Belmond with the winner facing Kuemper on May 28 in Carroll and Centerville facing Chariton on May 26 in Centerville with the winner facing No. 3 seeded Des Moines Christian in Des Moines on May 28. Pella Christian and Albia play on May 28 in Pella with the winner taking on DM Christian, Centerville or Chariton on June 2 in Des Moines. The regional final is June 4 and will be hosted by the highest remaining ranked team.
