Fred Hodgell, 79 of Gilmore City, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026. He will be laid to rest at a private family inurnment. Services have been entrusted to Lentz Funeral Home of Gilmore City. Online condolences may be left at www.lentzfuneralhome.com.
Frederick Albert Hodgell was born in a rural Pocahontas County farmhouse on Dec. 30, 1946, to C. Merle and Wanda (Peers) Hodgell. He graduated from Gilmore City-Bradgate High School in 1965. He farmed in the Gilmore City area his entire life, except for his time in the United States Marine Corps. Fred was a devoted husband and father, married to Donna (Strait) for 58 years.
Fred is survived by his wife, Donna, his daughters, Helen (Joel) Davidson and Edith Hodgell (James Pate), his grandchildren, Madi and Clayton Davidson and Cyrus and Conall Marsh, and his sister, Marla Hodgell. He was preceded in death by his parents, C. Merle and Wanda Hodgell, siblings, Cyrus Merle Hodgell II and Mary Clark, in-laws Edith and Everett Strait, and brother-in-law Steven Strait.
