Wildcat boys divide pair with Clear Lake

The Humboldt High baseball team moved to 8-1 overall, 5-1 in the North Central Conference after sweeping Hampton-Dumont-CAL in a home doubleheader on June 1. The Wildcats won by scores of 15-5 and 11-5.

Humboldt whipped Newell-Fonda 18-4 in non-conference action at Newell on May 28.

Humboldt divided their North Central Conference home doubleheader with Clear Lake on Tuesday, May 26, winning 2-1 in the first game and falling 6-3 in the second game.

In the opener, Valley Davis pitched eight strong innings to earn the win on the mound for the Wildcats. Jackson Flaherty scored in Chase Flaherty's hit in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Humboldt. In the second game, Clear Lake took advantage of 11 walks and four hit batsmen to come out on top.

Humboldt downed Charles City 6-2 in NCC action in Humboldt on Friday, May 22. Humboldt sophomore pitchers Dane Clark and Grant Goodell combined to pitch a two-hitter over seven innings. Goodell hit a run-scoring double at the plate to lead Humboldt's four-hit attack.

Humboldt swept Fort Dodge St. Edmond in a pair of games in Fort Dodge on May 20, winning by scores of 7-2 and 9-1. Griffin Groat and Valley Davis combined to pitch a three-hitter in the first game. Humboldt totaled 11 hits. Jackson Flaherty pitched a two-hitter in the second game for Humboldt.

Humboldt rolled to a 16-2 victory at Manson-NW on May 19. Jackson Flaherty made two hits and drove in four runs. Groat, Chase Hansen and Avyon Sutterfield each hit a double.

Humboldt visits Southeast Valley on June 4. On June 5, they travel to Fort Dodge where they will play Sioux City West at 1 p.m. and Sioux City West at 4 p.m. Humboldt returns to NCC action on June 8 at Iowa Falls. Humboldt will host Forest City on June 9.
