Wildcat baseball team to 20-8 overall

The Humboldt High baseball team won their 20th game of the season on Tuesday night, July 7, in a 12-1 conquest of the Storm Lake Tornadoes. Dane Clark drove in four runs with a home run to lead the Wildcats' eight-hit attack. Grant Goodell earned the win pitching as he allowed two hits and struck out two. Valley Davis, Chase Hansen and Jaxson Kirchhoff all shared pitching duties for Humboldt.
Humboldt pushed their season record to 19-8 overall by blanking Pocahontas Area, 13-0 in five innings on July 2 in Humboldt in non-conference action. Wildcat pitchers Chase Hansen and Grant Goodell kept the Indians in check and were backed by solid defense and strong hitting.
Humboldt continued their winning ways by rolling past Estherville-Lincoln Central, 13-1 in Estherville on Tuesday, June 30.
Humboldt swept Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in a North Central Conference doubleheader at Clarion on Monday night, June 29, winning by scores of 16-4 and 10-0. Humboldt improved to 17-8 overall, 10-4 in the NCC.
Humboldt hosts Spencer in their final game of the regular season on July 8.
Class 3A Substate tournament pairings are now out and the Wildcats will travel to Algona for their first round game on Friday, July 10, 7 p.m. The winner will play on July 13 against Waverly-Shell Rock or Nevada, who play in Waverly on July 10. The other half of 3A Substate 2 has North Polk hosting Hampton-Dumont-CAL and Gilbert hosting Webster City with the substate semifinal on July 13 at a site to be determined. The substate final will be played July 15 at a site to be determined.
