Jack Guy looks back on Shrine Bowl experience

Humboldt High School senior football standout Jack Guy, one of the top offensive linemen in the state last season, got to wear his Wildcat helmet one more game as he played in the annual Shrine Bowl All-Star game last Saturday, July 25, inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.

The game, the 54th annual classic, pits the top seniors across Iowa. Guy, who played two quarters at offensive right tackle, helped the North squad defeat the South, 17-7. The North team rallied with 14 unanswered points in the second half to secure the win.

Guy is the 32nd Humboldt player to play in the summer all-star classic, which began in 1973. The game serves as a celebration of the state’s top senior football players while raising money and awareness for Shriners Children’s hospitals, continuing a tradition that has spanned more than 50 years.

Guy a 6-foot-2, 260-pounder who was named the top offensive lineman in Class 3A District 1 last fall, was a first-team all-district pick and topped it off by being named first-team all-state.
