The path forward; changes to our online article access

Dear Readers,

Thank you for your continued support of the Humboldt Newspapers throughout the years, since 1860 we have remained loyal to our mission of keeping news local and accessible for our readers. We have also continued to evolve with the industry as it has grown and changed, with the rise of the digital age we once again need to make that next step to keep bringing you the stories that matter.

Starting September 3, 2026 our featured articles published in the print version of the Humboldt Independent will now be available online through a subscription-only model. Public service and emergency notice stories will remain free.

What this means for you?
Those who are already subscribed, can continue to access our articles as usual with your log in. Online access is included in your subscription (when subscribing and resubscribing make sure to include an updated email address that is connected to your account so that you can continue to have access).

Those who do not have an updated subscription will be able to read a preview of the article before you are shown a message prompting you to subscribe. You must subscribe for full access to the article. If you do not wish to subscribe, you can read the full article when it is published in the print edition on Thursdays!
