Darwin Paul Torgerson was born April 8, 1949, in Fort Dodge, the son of Miles and Marie (Metzger) Torgerson. He lived on a farm near Bode before moving to Humboldt, where he began school and later graduated from Humboldt High School in 1967.
In January 1968, Darwin enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He completed his basic training in San Diego, California, and proudly served 13 months in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps.
After returning home, Darwin began working as a carpenter and in construction. He had a natural talent for building and took pride in his work, constructing homes and completing a wide variety of projects throughout his career. He worked for many years in Humboldt, Oklahoma and Whittemore before retiring in 2011. Following his retirement, he made his home in Humboldt.
Darwin was united in marriage to Debra Bell, and they were blessed with two children, Trent and Tekka. They later divorced.
Outside of work, Darwin enjoyed watching football and movies and, most of all, spending time with his family.
Darwin died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026 at Clarion Wellness and Rehab Center. He was 77.
He is survived by his children, Trent Torgerson of Humboldt, Tekka Torgerson of Waterloo, Jamee (Victor) Spigarelli of Oklahoma City, OK, Kasee (Theotis) Payne Valerius of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Tanner, Kat (Jesse), Khia, Justin, Jaylee, Dexter, Oliver, Zhana; twin sister, Marcy (Jim) Illg; brother, Dennis (Colleen) Torgerson; and many nieces and nephews.
