JAMES J. FEVOLD

James J. Fevold, 91, of Humboldt, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in Humboldt.
James Joseph Fevold was born Sept. 1, 1935 in Moorland, the son of B.J. and Florence (Saboe) Fevold. He grew up on a farm near Pioneer and later on a farm southwest of Humboldt. In 1955 he was drafted into the United States Army, serving in Korea. Following his discharge in 1959, he continued to serve in the Army Reserve. Jim returned home to farm and on Aug. 7, 1965 and was united in marriage to Marilyn J. Lerdal at Lake Lutheran Church near Renwick. The couple made their home on the family farm southwest of Humboldt until moving to town in 1991. After retiring from farming, Jim worked for Ingham Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp, Humboldt Homes and Lawn Ranger until he fully retired. He volunteered for prison ministry in local surrounding areas and through Church of the Damascus Road. He was a member of the Humboldt Elevator Board and Lutheran Brotherhood and was known for his ministry of shipping grain and hay to areas in need. He was an active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. Jim was proud of his 100% Norwegian heritage and enjoyed making Norwegian desserts to share with friends and relatives - he was famous for his gumme and rommegrot! He had the privilege of meeting many of his Norwegian relatives a number of years ago in Norway. One of Jim’s favorite things was fishing. If he wasn’t volunteering, you could most likely find him fishing.
Jim is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marilyn of Humboldt and his daughter, Krista Fevold (John Gould) of Brainerd, MN, his sisters-in-law; Mary Fevold of Humboldt, Debbie Lerdal of Ankeny and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Charlene (Bert) then (Emmett) Cran-Wiegert, Betty (Merlin) Dyvig and Mary (Kenneth) Barrett and his brothers; Lowell (Phyllis), Ardell (Veda), Robert (Ardis), Rolland (LaDonna) and David Fevold, his father and mother-in-law, Don and Mabel Lerdal and brother-in-law, Don Lerdal.
Memorial Services were held at 11 a.m. on Sat., Oct. 24 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Burial will be at a later date in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the discretion of the family. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service is in charge of the arrangements. www.masonlindhart.com
