Hajek will be 2-sport athlete at Northwestern College

After an impressive two-year run at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, former Humboldt High multi-sport athlete Jori Hajek will continue the same at Northwestern College in Orange City.

Hajek, who starred in volleyball and softball at Iowa Central after graduating from Humboldt High School in 2021, said the opportunity to continue playing both sports was too good to pass up.

“I wanted to be able to compete at the next level and with Northwestern being successful in volleyball and softball, it was a perfect fit for me,” Hajek said.

“It helps having Ellie Jacobson from Humboldt playing another year at Northwestern,” Hajek said. “Both coaches at Northwestern were super awesome and made it known they wanted me to be a part of their programs.”

Hajek helped lead the ICCC volleyball program to the junior college national tournament in 2021 and 2022. She earned all-conference and all-region honors. She could play both front row and back row for the Tritons. In softball she was a two-year starting shortstop.

“I’ll probably continue to play shortstop in softball and I’ll likely play more back row in volleyball, but I expect I’ll do some hitting up front,” Hajek said.

“I will major in either sports management or physical education. I want to come back to my home area and coach after I’m done with college,” Hajek said.
