Public Safety Commission approves sally port

The Humboldt County Public Safety Commission has been meeting regularly to discuss plans for a sally port for the Humboldt County Law Enforcement Center (LEC)
A sally port is a secure, controlled entryway to an enclosure that is fortified and protected.
It is something that has been talked about for some time. There is not a secure location currently for the loading and off-loading of prisoners being booked or moved from the county jail. Both Humboldt County Sheriff Dean Kruger and Humboldt Police Chief Joel Sanders have advocated for the construction of such a port.
Discussions on how to get a sally port built began last summer and progressed to the hiring of ISG, the city’s civil engineering firm. The Commission has been working with Nick Frederiksen, civil engineering group leader for ISG.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the Commission approved a contract with ISG for design and engineering services in the amount of $46,900.
