Remodel of high school cafeteria planned

The Humboldt Board of Education on Monday gave the go-ahead to remodel the high school cafeteria, accepting a bid from Jim Gronbach Construction at $25,000 for the lunch room remodeling project and $8,300 to move the trophy case to the north wall. Work will begin right away with completion by the end of July. Humboldt School Superintendent Jim Murray says funds from the district’s Physical Plant and Equipment Levy will be used for the project.
The existing east block wall separating the kitchen from the dining area will be removed, with two metal pulldown gates installed. The gates will be closed after hours.
“We want to turn the lunch room experience into more of a convenience store experience, where students won’t wait in line. If they want to go to their pizza area, they can do that and then check out and go back to their seats,” Murray said.
Murray said construction work at Taft Elementary School, the addition of classrooms and a new, full-size gymnasium, is still on hold, waiting for the State Fire Marshal to give final approval before work continues. He also gave updates on other school construction.
