Miller eyes strong finish at Minnesota State

The next four months will be bittersweet for Matt Miller.
Miller, a former Humboldt High standout, begins his fourth and final year on the Minnesota State University football team with plans for a strong finish before embarking on a career after college.
Miller, who reported to fall practice in Mankato last weekend, saw extensive action last year at linebacker for the Mavericks, who finished with an overall record of 10-3, 9-2 and tied for first in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, comprised of NCAA Division II schools in the upper Midwest.
“This is my last year and so I’m focused on playing for the team, playing for the guys. Just go out there and enjoy the last ride. Use football for what it's meant to be used for, and that’s to enjoy it,” Miller said.
“It’s going to be a bittersweet moment for me, for sure, when it all comes to an end,” Miller said.
The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Miller played in 11 games in the 2022 season and finished with five solos, two assists and two pass breakups.
“I was a rotational starter last year for a few games due to injuries. I got to play more towards the end of the season. I got to play a little bit more of an important role,” Miller said.
“I played mostly inside linebacker last year. I played some outside linebacker due to injuries, but I expect to be back to playing inside this fall,” Miller said.
