6 lettermen return to lead Wildcat boys' cross country

First-year Humboldt head cross country coach Spencer Ross has high hopes for his boys squad this season.
“Just like the girls, I think there are 10 to 12 guys who could be battling for a varsity spot. The top two or three are probably pretty comfortable, but after that, from a coaching standpoint, I want to put the seven guys out there who will give us the best chance to win,” Ross said.
Six returning letterwinners include Hayden Hansen, Austin Little, Daylin McDaniel, Justin Ash, Jaden Himrod and Gabe Thumma. Thumma, only a sophomore, was Humboldt's leader throughout his freshman campaign.
The Wildcats open their season on Saturday, Aug. 26, in the Iowa Falls-Alden Invitational at Mayne's Grove north of Iowa Falls. It was moved from Aug. 24 due to the high heat and humidity.
