Who says the Humboldt football team is rebuilding?

It looked more like re-loading Friday night (Aug. 25) on Mason Maach Field in Humboldt in the Wildcats' 20-3 victory over the Spencer Tigers in a non-district season opener.

Mason Van Pelt scored on a 15-yard run on the Wildcats' opening drive of the game to put Spencer on its heels early. Nolan Gustafson's point-after made it 7-0 at 7:35.

Spencer responded with a drive that ended on a 35-yard field goal by Eli Hookfin early in the second quarter, making it 7-3 Humboldt at halftime.

Gustafson booted a 30-yard field goal at 4:01 in the third quarter. He later kicked a 27-yarder with 11:56 left in the fourth quarter.

Humboldt's final score came with 8:11 left in the fourth quarter on Corey Dettmann's 52-yard interception return for a score. Gustafson kicked the point-after for the 20-3 final score.

Humboldt travels to Ballard Huxley on Friday, Sept. 1, for another non-district game.
