Wildcats host Clear Lake in final home game Oct. 13

Algona, led by standout quarterback Alex Manske, pulled away in the second half to a 34-17 victory over the Humboldt Wildcats in a Class 3A District 2 contest at Algona Friday night (Oct. 6).

Humboldt, 4-3 overall, 2-1 in district play, trailed 14-10 at halftime and took a brief, 17-14 lead at 8:25 in the third quarter on Lance Coon's 3-yard touchdown run. Algona outscored the Wildcats 20-0 the rest of the way to improve to 2-1 in district play, 5-2 overall.

Humboldt quarterback Coen Matson passed four yards to Jackson Dodd for a score at 2:16 in the second quarter to trim the Algona lead to 14-10. Nolan Gustafson put Humboldt on the board early in the second quarter on a 20-yard field goal.

Humboldt will host unbeaten district leader Clear Lake on Friday, Oct. 13, in their final home game of the regular season. The Lions were a 21-6 winner over Hampton-Dumont-CAL. Webster City was a 49-13 winner over Charles City.
