Wildcats set to defend NCC soccer title

HUMBOLDT – The Humboldt boys’ soccer team has had a lock on the North Central Conference title ever since the NCC began recognizing the sport interscholastically in 2022.
Last year veteran head coach Joe Hadar led the Wildcats to a 13-2 overall record, 11-1 and in a first-place tie with Webster City for the league crown.
While graduation losses were heavy and the team numbers are somewhat down this year, Hadar feels his five returning letterwinners will be complemented by a talented younger group ready to make their mark and challenge for another title.
The five lettermen include senior Carter Westre, junior, Johnathan Hayden, junior all-conference goalkeeper Karson Rubel, junior Jacob Girres and sophomore Nico Christensen. Westre was a second-team all-NCC pick last year who led the squad with 12 assists.
Westre scored five goals last year but also used his skills to feed passes to the school’s all-time leading scorer, Cristhian Ramirez, who graduated last year and led the squad with 27 goals.
