Wildcat volleyball team has high expectations

Waldorf back as head coach, 9 letterwinners return
A familiar face is back to lead the Humboldt High School volleyball team.
Kara Waldorf, who led the program during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, compiling a 48-20 overall record, 13-1 in the North Central Conference and a league title in 2021 takes the reins of a squad that returns nine letterwinners from last year’s team that went 23-10 overall, 7-0 and first in the NCC. They advanced to a regional final before bowing to eventual state champ Western Christian of Hull.
“It feels great. I have had so much fun being back in the gym with the girls and the other coaches. It’s a different feeling but a great feeling. There’s so much excitement right now,” Waldorf said.
“Having coached two years before and having the last two years off was a good thing. I got to take a step back and be a spectator for a few years. Ashlyn (McKenna) did a great job as head coach and had a great season last year. She prepared them for this year,” Waldorf said.
“This group of girls in grades 9-12, I have already had some kind of coaching contact with through youth programs or my previous two years as coach. I’ve coached all of these girls in some capacity and so I know them and their style of play and competitiveness,” Waldorf said.
“Last year we graduated a really good senior up front at the net in Larsen Bonnstetter, a great blocker and really good player. But everyone else returns from that squad so we have high hopes,” Waldorf said.
