The Humboldt High boys' soccer team gave first-year head coach Tony Beach 3-1 victory over Garner-Hayfield/Ventura in his debut at Mason Maach Field in Humboldt on Monday night, March 30.
In a season opener for both schools, Humboldt got off to a 2-0 first half lead and went on to defeat the visiting Cardinals in the first game for Beach, who replaces long-time Wildcat coach Joe Hadar who stepped down after last season.
Nico Christensen was credited with two goals on the night for Humboldt. The first came at the 20:00 mark in the first half when a ball deflected off of a Cardinal player on a throw-in resulted in a goal. Since Christensen was the last player to touch it, he was credited with the goal. Senior Obed Antonio scored with 4:00 left in the first half. After GHV scored with 16:00 left in the second half, Christensen tallied another goal for Humboldt 5:00 left on the clock.
Humboldt returns to action at home on Monday night, April 6, at Mason Maach Field in Humboldt against Webster City. Action begins at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity to follow. Humboldt's home contest on April 2 with Hampton-Dumont-CAL has been postponed due to inclement weather.
