DEAN JONES

Dean Jones of Humboldt passed away at home on June 26, 2026. Dean was born in Merna, NE on Feb. 3, 1928. Growing up, Dean lived in a number of towns in western South Dakota and Nebraska before graduating from Alliance Nebraska High School in 1945. After graduation, Dean spent a year at the University of Nebraska before enlisting in the army during WWII serving during the occupation of Japan. After the Army, he returned to Alliance where he met his future wife, Mary Huber. Mary and Dean married on June 5, 1949. Dean and Mary lived in a number of cities including Kansas City, Fort Worth, and Toronto before settling in Humboldt in 1964.
While in Humboldt Dean worked as the manager for Treloar’s restaurant in Ft. Dodge for nine years and then as the Office Manager at W&H COOP until his retirement in 1988. He and Mary enjoyed traveling the western United States with trips including stops at casinos and visiting relatives. Fall was Dean’s favorite time of year when he would cheer on his beloved Nebraska Cornhuskers and KC Chiefs.
Dean is survived by his wife of 77 years Mary, daughter Mardene of Humboldt, son Jerry and daughter in-law Deb of Badger. Dean was proceeded in death by his father, Hershal Jones, mother, Hildred Sittler, step-father, BF “Ole” Sittler and two baby boys.
Visitation for Dean will be held 9 - 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1 at Lentz Funeral Home in Humboldt. The family would like memorials sent to the Humboldt Library or the HCMH Foundation.
