Wildcat softball team in 9-3 win at Mason City

The Humboldt High softball team ended their regular season with a 9-3 victory over the Mason City Redhawks in non-conference action in Mason City on Tuesday, July 7. Humboldt pounded 15 hits as Claire Dieleman and Hayden Graaf each had three hits to lead the Wildcat offense. Adele Nolting earned the win pitching. Nolting and starter Graaf combined to throw seven innings and allow three hits and three strikeouts. Humboldt improved to 12-18 overall.
No. 5 ranked (Class 1A) Mason City Newman halted Humboldt's five-game win streak with a 7-2 victory over the Wildcats in non-conference softball at Mason City on July 6.
The Humboldt High softball team won their fifth straight game on Thursday, July 2, by downing No. 6 (Class 1A) ranked Newell-Fonda, 7-5 in Humboldt in non-conference play. The Wildcats ended the game with a triple play when a Mustang batter hit a line drive caught by Humboldt second baseman Abby Armitage, who threw to the first baseman to force the N-F baserunner out. The Humboldt first baseman then threw to third base for the third and final out as a N-F baserunner had not returned to the bag in time.
Abby Armitage, Sadie Hubbell and Adalee Nolting all homered to lead the Humboldt softball team to a 12-6 North Central Conference victory over Hampton-Dumont-CAL on July 1 in Humboldt. The Wildcats improved to 10-17 overall, 6-8 in conference play.
Claire Dieleman had three hits and Adelee Nolting and Hayden Graaf combined to pitch a four-hitter in leading the Humboldt softball team to an 8-7 victory over 15th ranked Pocahontas Area on June 30 in Humboldt. The win improved the Wildcats' record to 9-17 overall.
Humboldt High picked up a 9-1 victory over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows on June 29 in Clarion. The triumph improved Humboldt's record to 8-17 overall, 5-8 in conference play.
Humboldt will host a Class 3A Region 6 tournament game on Thursday, July 9, when they face Estherville-Lincoln Central in a 7 p.m. contest. The winner will face No. 5 ranked Prairie City-Monroe or Southeast Valley in a regional semifinal on July 11, hosted by the highest ranked remaining team. The other half of Region 6 has Algona hosting Okoboji and Spirit Lake hosting Sheldon in opening round games. The regional final will be played on July 14, hosted by the highest ranked remaining team.
