No. 2 HHS girls win their own tournament
Humboldt wins NCC opener
Humboldt’s second-ranked (Class 3A) volleyball team was impressive in winning their own tournament last Saturday (Aug. 29), going 5-0 on the day to take top honors.
Hudson was 4-1, Carroll Kuemper 3-2, Emmetsburg 2-3, South Hardin 1-4 and Fort Dodge 0-5. The Wildcats were 10-1 in matches. Their only blemish was in the second set of their 2-1 win over Kuemper (21-15, 14-21, 15-8).
“The girls showed a lot of grit today. Tournaments can be physically hard and mentally exhausting, and they did a great job responding when things got tough,” Humboldt head coach Kara Waldorf said.
“The Hudson and Kuemper games were big wins for us and I thought the girls really controlled those matches well. We won the first set against Kuemper and then got down in the second and ended up losing, but the girls did great taking care of business the third set which was fun to see,” Waldorf said.
