Humboldt County packs over 150,000 meals
Meals from the Heartland is realizing something people in Humboldt County have known for a long time — when it comes to charity, we don’t like to be outdone. Meals from the Heartland, the all-volunteer effort to help feed the hungry, successfully completed its fourth annual meal raising this past weekend, with hundreds of thousands of meals packaged, tens of thousands of funds raised and over 900 local volunteers participating, making the goodwill effort, sponsored by the Humboldt County Ministerial Association, the largest community-wide volunteer event in the county. Correction, make that several counties and even the entire state! Meals from the Heartland Executive Director Dave Bradley, a Humboldt native, proclaimed Humboldt County as the largest in number of meals packaged and volunteers of any of the county meal raisings in the state. “The effort is almost unprecedented,” Bradley, who was working right alongside committee members and other community volunteers, said. “The support we get from Humboldt County is just amazing."
