Wildcat girls 2nd, boys 4th at Ballard cross country meet

Humboldt's varsity girls' cross country team placed runner-up while the Wildcat boys were fourth in the Ballard Huxley Invitational meet held Monday, Sept. 12 in Huxley. Freshman Bryce Gidel led the Wildcat girls by finishing first individually in 19:37. Humboldt totaled 65 points to finish behind first-place Gilbert (35). North Polk was a close third at 68. There were nine schools and 69 varsity runners in the girls division. Also for Humboldt, Gabby Kent was sixth and Isabella Luu 17th.
Humboldt's boys totaled 125 points to place fourth among 11 schools. Gilbert (42), Nodaway Valley (63) and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura (67) finished ahead of the Wildcats. Ryan Courtney led Humboldt by finishing 17th in 18:14. Joe Kunert was 20th in 18:21.
