MARLYS J. NESBITT

Marlys J. Nesbitt, 85, of Humboldt, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025 at the Marian Home in Fort Dodge.
Marlys J. Dencklau was born June 18, 1940 at Vincent. She attended country school, Newark #9, 1st thru 8th grade, then graduating from Fort Dodge High School in 1958. After graduating she went to work for Sieg – Fort Dodge Company, Seyer Manufacturing, Hotsy and Bob Mickey Motors which was later B & N Auto Sales. Marlys retired in 2018.
She was married to John W. Nesbitt on Jan. 27, 1962 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Colfax. The same church where she was baptized, confirmed and regularly attended. They made their home in the Lanyon/Harcourt area moving to Humboldt in 1965. John passed away on March 27, 2008.

Wildcats rally past Algona, 28-23

Humboldt rallied from a 17-7 halftime deficit to upend the Algona Bulldogs, 28-23 in a Class 3A District 1 football game at Algona on Friday, Oct. 3.

The victory improved the Wildcats' record to 3-3 overall, 1-1 in district play and also kept Humboldt's playoff hopes alive with three games remaining in district play. Algona fell to 3-3 and 0-2.

Quarterback Jackson Flaherty scored on an 8-yard run in the second quarter and completed two touchdown passes to Chase Flaherty in the second half. Cash McIntire scored on a 17-yard run with 2:06 left in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Algona scored with 43 seconds left in the game on a 5-yard pass from Nathan Manske to Micah Kitzinger. Humboldt's defense stopped the conversion run attempt for two. Humboldt then recovered Algona's onside kick and ran out the remaining 41 seconds.

Humboldt travels to Maurice Orange City-Floyd Valley on Oct. 10 for district play.

Wildcats sweep CGD, 3-0

The Humboldt volleyball team moved to 19-6 on the season by sweeping Clarion-Goldfield-Dows 25-11, 25-10 and 25-13 in the Humboldt gym on Thursday night, Oct. 2 in North Central Conference action.

Humboldt, ranked sixth, moved to 4-0 in the NCC. CGD fell to 5-15 overall.

The Wildcats host Hampton-Dumont-CAL on Tuesday, Oct. 9.

UPDATE: Alexis Fuller has been found safe according to the Des Moines Police Department

DES MOINES - It has been over two months since 17-year-old Alexis Fuller disappeared and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) is asking for the public’s help to bring her home.

Alexis went missing on July 12, 2025, after receiving medical care in Des Moines, Iowa. Investigators say Alexis was last seen wearing blue medical-style scrubs and want to emphasize that she may be in need of medical attention.

Alexis’s father, John Fuller, shared there has been no communication from Alexis since her disappearance, and that the family is deeply concerned for her well-being. John wants Alexis to know how much she is loved and missed, and that her family just wants to know that she is safe.
