Second hearing scheduled for controversial quarry

Cole Anderson
Rutland quarry owner Cole Anderson petitioned the Humboldt County Board of Adjustments regarding an application for a special exception use permit. Anderson states with new equipment, he will be able to once again mine the site to remove limestone. The site had been rezoned as an agricultural site, thus requiring the special exception use permit.

BY APRIL KELLEY
The Humboldt County Board of Adjustments will once again meet to hear a petition by Cole Anderson regarding an application for a special exception use permit.
Anderson is the owner of a defunct quarry in Rutland. The quarry had ceased being operational sometime in the 1960’s when the owners of the quarry found they were unable to pump water out of the hole fast enough to keep up with operations.
Since the closing of the quarry, it has been privately owned and used as residential property.
Anderson states with new equipment, he will be able to once again mine the site to remove limestone.
The site had been rezoned as an agricultural site, thus requiring the special exception use permit.
