Humboldt girls top B-K, 9-5

Claire Dieleman went 5-for-5 at bat and Adalee Nolting earned the win pitching to lead the Humboldt softball team past Belmond-Klemme, 9-5 on Thursday night in Belmond in non-conference play. Reagan Lee was 4-5 at bat and Rylee Coyle 3-4 to power the Wildcats, 4-4 overall.

The Humboldt softball team got back into the win column on Wednesday night (June 5) at Clarion, rolling to a 19-1 victory over the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls. Humboldt improved to 3-4 overall, 2-3 in league play.

Lions top Wildcat girls, 5-0
Clear Lake took an early lead on Humboldt and went on to upend the Wildcats, 5-0 in Clear Lake on Friday night, May 31.

Elsie Hubbell, Jayden Kutschara, Rylee Coyle and Gracie Lyon each had a hit for Humboldt, now 2-3 overall, 1-2 in the North Central Conference.

Wildcats rally past Forest City, 10-7

The Humboldt baseball team rallied with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and went on to down the Forest City Indians, 10-7 in non-conference play in Humboldt on Thursday, June 6. The contest was rescheduled from June 4.

Wildcats blast CGD, 17-5
Humboldt baseball earned another lopsided conference victory at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows on June 5 at Clarion, rolling to a 17-5 victory. Humboldt improved to 8-2 overall, 4-1 in the North Central Conference.

Wildcat baseball team blanks Webster City, 10-0
The Humboldt baseball team improved its season record to 7-2 overall, 3-1 in the North Central Conference by shutting out the Webster City Lynx, 10-0 in five innings Monday night (June 3) in Humboldt. Riley Sorensen socked two doubles and drove in four runs to lead the Wildcats. Isaiah Busick earned the win pitching.

School Board recognizes staff members

The Humboldt Community School Board met Monday, May 20 at the Administration Offices for their monthly meeting. During the meeting two employees were recognized with the Champions for Children Award, the Administer reports were given, and the first and second read of policies were approved.
Employees Josh Telshaw and Melissa Collins were recognized with the Champions for Children Award for their dedication to serving the school district. Technology Assistant, Telschaw was recognized for his work with technology services while food service employee Melissa Collins was recognized for her work on the Hot Lunch Program which serves Mease Elementary, Kiddie Cats Daycare and Learning Center, and Head Start in Dakota City.

Every year, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), about 1,000 tornados are reported across The United States.
The average number of tornados Iowa will see in a year is 48. So far, this year we have already seen 67.
Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds issued a disaster emergency proclamation for Humboldt County last week. According to Humboldt County Emergency Management Director Kyle Bissell, “It means that we can apply for state resources if we need to, to help with any kind of disaster cleanup, any kind of repairs to critical infrastructure, things like that. One of the big things it allows for though is individuals can apply for a grant up to $5,000 per household." Bissell said one of the big needs locally would be for flooded basements.

Minor injuries but major damage reported

Two vehicles were totaled but both drivers escaped serious injury on Monday, May 27 in the 2500 block of Gotch Park Road. The accident occurred at 12 p.m.
According to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), a 2021 black Ford Bronco driven by Haley C. Satern, 19, of Dakota City, was southbound on Gotch Park Road.
A 1999 white Dodge Ram 1500 pickup driven by Alexander J. Fliehe, 23, of Humboldt, was northbound on Gotch Park Road and attempted to make a left-hand turn into a driveway at 2549 Gotch Park Road, not seeing the Satern vehicle.
The front of Satern’s Bronco struck the front middle of Fliehe’s pickup.
Satern’s SUV overturned in the west ditch next to the Fliehe property. The driver was extricated by non-mechanical means after both front seat air bags deployed.
The pickup came to rest in the southbound lane of the roadway. .
Neither driver was wearing occupant protection, according to the report.

Algona downs Humboldt, 15-5

The Humboldt baseball team suffered their first conference loss of the season Wednesday night (May 29) in a 15-5 setback to Algona on Wildcat Field in Humboldt. The Wildcats are now 4-2 overall, 1-1 in league play. Algona is 2-0 in NCC action.

The Wildcats defeated Hampton-Dumont-CAL, 12-5 on Friday night (May 24) in Humboldt to begin NCC action. Junior right-hander Isaiah Busick earned the win pitching on the mound for the Wildcats as he struck out nine and walked four in 5.2 innings. Chase Hansen threw 1.1 innings of relief.

Humboldt's 12-hit attack was led by Keegan Groat with three hits. Swatting two hits each was Mason Van Pelt, Grant Dieleman and Evan Hatcher. Riley Sorensen, Hatcher, Dieleman and Groat each hit a homer.

Humboldt played in the Remsen St. Mary's tournament on Saturday, May 25, and went 1-1 on the day. Humboldt beat Kingsley-Pierson, 7-3, and lost 6-4 to Remsen St. Mary's.

Algona rallies past Humboldt softball team, 13-9

Algona scored nine runs over the last two innings to force extra innings and went on to upend the Humboldt softball team, 13-9 in Humboldt on May 29 on Wildcat Field. The loss dropped the Wildcats to 2-2 overall, 1-1 in NCC action. Humboldt had scored a run in the first, five in the third and three in the bottom of the fourth for a 9-0 lead.

Humboldt opened North Central Conference play at home on Friday, May 24, in a 5-3 victory over the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs. Humboldt started Elsie Hubbell on the mound and followed with Abby Armitage and Adalee Nolting to shut down the Bulldogs after taking a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Humboldt's seven-hit attack was led by Gracie Lyon and Jayden Kutschara each with two hits. Mia Schluter, Hubbell and Armitage each had one hit for the Wildcats.
