By KENT THOMPSON
A rebuild of the Wildcat Wonderland playground will be a community project that will take locally donated funds and volunteer elbow grease to complete.
Humboldt County Community Foundation (HCCF) is conducting its first ever matching challenge grant as part of the fundraising effort. The Foundation is matching donations dollar for dollar for the first $50,000. The playground committee has set a goal of $400,500, but would like to raise more, so more poured in place rubberized safe play surfaces can be added and security lighting can be included.
The playground will feature many new amenities including an orbital roundabout, swag fun swing for both ADA and non-ADA users and a mini Ninja Warrior-type fitness area.

Supervisors want another meeting about dam

Humboldt County District 5 Supervisor Dave Lee (left) and Humboldt County Conservation Director Todd Lee (right) shared comments about the Reasoner Dam and its future at Monday's Humboldt County Board of Supervisors meeting. Read all about it in this week's Humboldt Independent.

By KENT THOMPSON
In football parlance, the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors on Monday called for a fair catch and then punted.
After some discussion, the Board elected to accept the recommendation of the Humboldt County Conservation Board (see related story). The Conservation Board met on Jan. 19 and unanimously agreed to recommend Alternative 2, a dam modification and a rock ramp at an estimated total cost of $4.4 million.
But accepting the recommendation does not mean the Supervisors approve going forward with the Conservation Board’s plan or any plan at this point. The final decision could be an amalgamation of plans looked at as alternatives to the current Joe Reasoner Dam in Humboldt.
