HHS girls 2nd in CGD golf invite

The Humboldt girls' golf team finished second in the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Invitational on Saturday, April 29.

Noelle Hammond shot a 92 and Aries Packard a 96 to lead the Wildcats, who totaled 430 strokes. Garner-Hayfield/Ventura won with 408. Eagle Grove totaled 440 and CGD was fourth at 480.

Hammond was runner-up medalist. Packard was third overall. Audrey Overgaard of GHV was medalist with a 91.

Humboldt fell to Iowa Falls-Alden in a conference dual at Iowa Falls on April 27, 192-203.

Packard's 44 earned meet medalist honors. Hamand was runner-up with a 45.

The North Central Conference tournament is scheduled for Monday, May 8 at Mason City. The Wildcats are at Storm Lake on May 12. The 3A regional meet is at Storm Lake on May 17.

Humboldt boys 6th in NCC track

Humboldt's varsity boys' track team placed sixth in the North Central Conference meet at Webster City on May 4.

The Wildcats finished with 63.5 points in a competitive field, won by Algona at 151 and Clear Lake second with 139. Iowa Falls-Alden was third at 117.5, Hampton-Dumont-CAL had 87.5. Webster City was fifth with 79. St. Edmond was seventh with 58 and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows last at 43. Humboldt's Mason Van Pel won the 800-meters in 2:02.58. The shuttle hurdle relay was runner-up.

Humboldt won five events and claimed the team title of the Storm Lake Relays on Thursday, April 27 in Storm Lake.

The Wildcats totaled 120 points to finish ahead of runner-up Newell-Fonda, which had 115. Carroll was third at 104 and Pocahontas Area fourth with 89 in the seven-school field of teams.

HHS girls win title at Storm Lake

Ashlynn Works won the discus title to lead the Humboldt girls' track team to third in the team scoring of the North Central Conference meet at Fort Dodge on May 4. Works had the winning toss of 120-5.

Clear Lake won the team title with 163.5 points. Algona was second at 141.5 and Humboldt totaled 107. Iowa Falls-Alden was fourth wit 77.5 and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows fifth at 67. Fort Dodge St. Edmond had 66, Hampton-Dumont-CAL totaled 59 and Webster City finished with 44.5.

Humboldt was runner-up in three events. Works was second in the shot put at 35-8 and Morgan Mann was second in the high jump at 5-1. The 800-meter medley relay was second.

Wildcat boys suffer first loss in 2-1 setback at Webster City

Humboldt's unbeaten string of soccer games came to an end on Thursday night, April 27 at Webster City, in a 2-1 loss to the Lynx for the Wildcat boys.

Cristhian Ramirez scored the only goal for Humboldt, which dropped to 7-1 overall, 5-1 in the North Central Conference.

It was Webster City's sixth straight win as they move to 7-1 overall, 7-1 in the NCC.

The Wildcats visit Hampton on May 2. Humboldt travels to Clear Lake on May 11.

HHS girls edged 1-0 in OT shootout

Humboldt's varsity girls' soccer team battled Iowa Falls-Alden to a scoreless 100 minutes of play before the host Cadets won, 1-0 on a shootout in a conference game at Iowa Falls on Monday night, May 8.

The 1-0 loss dropped the Wildcats to 7-6 overall, 5-4 in North Central Conference play. The Cadets improved their NCC-leading record to 9-1, 10-3 overall.

Ava McIntire scored the only goal in a 2-1 loss to Wright County on May 4 at Belmond.

Reagan Lee scored two goals and Elsie Hubbell added another to lead Humboldt past Hampton-Dumont-CAL on May 2 in Humboldt, 3-1.

Humboldt fell 2-1 to Ballard Huxley on Friday night (April 28) in a non-conference match in Humboldt.
Lily Allison scored the only goal for the Wildcats.

Wildcats 2, Webster City 0
Elsie Hubbell scored the only two goals of the contest in leading Humboldt past Webster City, 2-0 on April 27 in Humboldt.

Known country acts to be featured at 2023 fair

Every year there is something new at the Humboldt County Fair, but this year there will be something completely different.
Saturday night, July 29, there will be a country music concert that is going to be special and exciting.
Billboard Country chart-topper Tyler Farr will be performing his hits like “Redneck Crazy,” and “Whiskey in My Water,” as well as new material. Farr is working on an album with Jason Aldean.
Appearing prior to Farr will be Jake Worthington. An up-and-comer on the country music scene, fans will recognize him as the runner-up finisher on season 6 of The Voice, a member of Blake Shelton’s team.

Dam repair and dredging could be nearly $7 million

Robert Decker with Axiom Consultants presented the Humboldt County Conservation Board with a proposal for $3.6 million to repair the Reasoner Dam.
Decker met with the board during their regular session on Wednesday, April 19, with a standing room only crowd of community members in attendance. Steve Jacobson, structural engineering consultant with Axiom and Justin Brendon with J.F. Brennan Company, Inc. were also present at the meeting to answer questions.
“Our scope on this was very limited. I know you have had a study or two done on the dam previously. To look at the dam and analyze it for what it is,” Decker said.
“The Stantec report was very good. They did a really nice job of breaking down all the aspects of the dam, the history of the dam and some approaches to it,” Decker said.
A major expense not included in the estimate is dredging the area. Decker estimated that the cost to dredge the area would be at least $3.2 million.

Spring clean-up and hazardous materials drop off

It’s spring and people are thinking about cleaning up their homes and properties. The cities of Humboldt and Dakota City are doing something to aid in the effort.
Due to the burn ban and weather conditions on Saturday April 15, the city of Humboldt did not have an open burning day. The burn ban has been lifted and the city will schedule an open burning day for a Saturday in May. Details will be announced.
